Strictly Come Dancing is finally over for yet another series.

Right from the start the series had a spot of drama when Alesha Dixon replaced Arlene Phillips on the judging panel - hot gossip indeed - if you will pardon the pun. In my opinion, I can’t say that Alesha was any better or any worse then Arlene. Saying that though, if the current news stories are to be believed, it could well be that Arlene is on her way back for the next series.

Poor old Brucie was off sick for just one show when he caught the dreaded flu. The little man that is Ronnie Corbett was Brucie’s replacement for the night. Now being a meagre 5ft 2” myself I’m all in favour of short people, but really can you honestly say that Ronnie looked right next to the very tall and lean Tess Daly.

As per usual some of the celebrities were useless and looked like they had never had a chance to learn to dance. Others looked like they had been dancing for many years.

One of my favourite parts of the show is when all the celebrities perform together for the dancing groups extravaganza – brilliant.

I can’t even recall which celebrity actually won the series, but I can remember just a few of the stars. I really wanted Natalie Cassidy to win the overall competition. She just opitimised everything I think is important for dancing, mainly being the fact that she absolutely loved every second of it and always had a smile on her face.

I’ve heard that some of the dance professionals now host dancing holidays. Brilliant, you get to stay at a hotel surrounded by like minded people all wanting to learn how to dance. This sounds fantastic and it would be great to be able to learn a few new moves so when we go out on our next office do, I can put my new dance skills into practice. All I can say is they had better watch out for me at work, as I might just be the female version of the great John Travolta!!

Most people are not aware of it but swimming is actually a form of exercise that involves almost all of the muscles in your body. Because swimming is one form of “low-impact” exercise, it is ideal for those interested to begin an exercise regimen. It is also perfect for older people or those who need to undergo an exercise routine as a form of therapy but are allowed to get into the water or are able to swim. Swimming pool chemicals have no negative effects on the people who opt to exercise in the pool. Just be sure that in case the pool is being treated with swimming pool chemicals, an adequate amount of time has passed so that the pool water is safe for swimming in.

 

Strong swimmers usually begin their swim with a couple of gentle laps in the pool to warm up their muscles. As soon as you get warmed-up you can now start to swim at a more rigorous pace so your muscles will get exercised in the process. If you start to feel exhausted then it means that you are doing everything right.

 

Not a strong swimmer? You can do other exercise routines instead.

 

1. At the shallow end of the pool, walk from one side to the other for approximately 10-15 minutes at a brisk pace.

2. Do some stationary swimming at the deeper part of the pool for 5-8 minutes.

3. Water treading for 10-20 minutes at a rigorous speed. Unable to tread water? Simply hold on to the pool’s ledge for leverage and begin water “bicycling.”

4. Stand in the portion of the pool where the water reaches your chest. Begin twisting your upper body from one side to the other at least 8 times.

 

Remember a few important things. Exercises in the swimming pool can be fun but do not miss out on doing the warm-up and cooling-down stages. Give your body appropriate time to recuperate by exercising every other day.

 

Two Exercises to Increase Your Vertical

If you want to massively increase your jumping height and vertical, there are several thing that need to be included in your training in order to have good results. If you listen up, I’ll tell you about 2 great drills that are a good beginning place to start your work out to add a few inches to your vertical.

Dumbbell Squat Jumps are a great beginning workout. These are plyometric exercises that are designed to strengthen your core, legs and hip explosion muscles. You will only need a good flat and strong floor and some dumbbells. Don’t try this exercise if you are a beginner or have not worked out much before. Start our with any weights that are comfortable for this exercise. Put your feet at shoulder width apart and hold the dumbbells at your sides. Go to a squatting position and jump up. You’ll want to do about 10-15 reps per set, and about 2-3 sets in a session.

Another great exercise is keg tosses. This is straight out of the world’s strongest man workout. This drill will increase your explosive hip and upper-body power and develop your core muscles. Turn the keg over on its side and squat down in front of it. Pick the keg up by the sides and throw the keg upwards as hard as you can. Do Not try to catch the keg. You want to do this exercise till you cannot anymore. After this workout you will feel very worn out.

First on the Agenda - Cod

With just half a percent saturated fat content, Cod is one of the best animal proteins around. It’s also an awesome source of magnesium, in fact, eating just 300 grams (a small plate) of Cod will give your your RDA of magnesium in one meal. Magnesium helps muscles through contraction, allowing you to avoid muscle cramp while training.

The only bad thing about Cod is it high salt content.

If you need something to eat alongside your Cod I recommend broccoli. There’s also over twice the RDA of the antioxidant selenium, just like Cod. Selenium improves your recovers time after workouts and reduces the risk of muscle cramp.

Clams are high in cholesterol, so if you have a cholesterol problem its probably best if you just avoid them. however, recent studies at A&M University have found that cholesterol can help to build muscle, but only for people with normal cholesterol levels.

In my opinion, clams are best eaten with tomatoes since they are a good source in Vitamin C. Vitamin C increases the absorption rate of your body, allowing it to process more of the iron contained in the clams.

My Two Top Sources Of Protein

If you want to achieve your physical appearance goals, protein is the way forward, it packs on the muscle, strips away the fat, and get you to that end result in lightning speed. Surfers like to wear a men’s sport watch from a surfing label, but they don’t think they need to have an extra watch to wear outside of the water. They tend to snub others who have a surfing brand of watch that is useless in the water but looks great on land. They call them posers and judge them pretty harshly. It might not be nice, but if you want to be accepted as a surfer, keep it in mind!

There is a deeper issue behind the surfers’ prejudice against going overboard with fashion. Surfers, real surfers anyway, don’t feel like they need to show off to the world that they are surfers. It’s part of their being. That’s why others look up to them and try to emulate them.

Just copying their brands is going to backfire on you, though. If you want to be accepted by the surfing subculture, you’ve got to get not just your feet but your whole body wet! If a surfer sees you wearing his gear, he’s going to think less of you for it unless you can actually get in the water and surf. They won’t hesitate to tell you their feelings, either!

Fashion is nice, but skill is all important. Go ahead and buy those trendy watches and shoes, but stay away from the slopes or the waves if you don’t want to tackle them head-on!
